Berkeley undergraduate students from the Data Science Education Program provided instrumental data science support to the Goldman School of Public Policy's Mapping for Environmental Justice (MEJ) for their first demonstration map. MEJ integrates environmental, health, and socioeconomic data of US communities into a holistic and interactive public map.

The Computational Social Science Training Program (CSSTP) enthusiastically welcomes its first cohort of new fellows for the fall 2023 semester at UC Berkeley. The CSSTP is a new two-year multidisciplinary training program in advanced data analytics for predoctoral students in the social and behavioral sciences.
Daniel Alvarez was selected as the Jack Larson “Data for Good” Fellowship recipient for Summer 2023. The fellowship supports Master’s of Information and Data Science (MIDS) students who desire to use data science to benefit society. As a data analyst with the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), Alvarez provided data insights to improve the efficacy of cash assistance programs targeting refugees and displaced communities impacted by humanitarian crises around the world.
